Law firm saves £33K pa with lighting upgrade

London law corporation improves aesthetics and energy efficiency through lighting upgrade

With more than 2,000 lawyers working in offices around the globe, our end client is one of the world’s most highly respected legal companies. Having previously upgraded one floor of their four-storey London head quarters to LED, the client wanted to update the lighting throughout the building. Their aim was to improve the working environment and operational efficiency whilst reducing energy usage and lighting maintenance.

Furthermore, lux levels had to be maintained or improved to aid staff productivity and the lighting upgrade had to be delivered in tandem with an upgrade to the entire building’s lighting control system for the landlord.

APC Lighting partnered with CBRE for the bid, securing the contract in a competitive tender process by demonstrating the best overall value and project delivery solution.

Our solution

In order to replace their existing fittings, APC Lighting’s design team developed a bespoke luminaire with our manufacturing partner. The 300 x 300 mm square fixture is an uncommon size so it was necessary to create a custom design 300 x 300 mm LED fitting that improved lux levels, integrated with the upgraded lighting controls system and also fitted seamlessly into the 750 x 750 mm ceiling tiles.

The replacement lighting control system is a Dali networked Philips Dynalite system. The existing lighting control modules (LCMs) were removed and replaced, with new connectors and leads fitted to the new LED fittings. An entirely updated Dali network backbone was installed, connecting to the new system head-end in the facilities team office. In total more than 2,700 LED panels and downlights were installed, along with over 550 new LCMs with associated luminaire leads and network backbone.

As a result of the upgrade the client achieved a 57% reduction in lighting energy usage, equating to a £33K energy cost saving per year and an annual reduction of 146 tCO2.

APC has been delivering the LED lighting and LCM upgrade contract for a global law firm. The project has been challenging and complicated by the fact that we are replacing a lighting control system, luminaires and associated cabling throughout a client’s operational building. APC has worked closely with the CBRE team and client to ensure that disruption to normal operations has been minimal, with zero accidents. Overall we are very happy with the products and service from APC and would recommend them as a supplier
