Understanding Meinberg’s HPS100 Performance Levels

Meinberg’s High-Performance Synchronisation card offers unparalleled performance for PTP and NTP applications.

Each HPS100 can synchronise up to 2,048 PTP unicast slaves or can support hundreds of thousands of multicast delay requests per second. However, many users do not need such a high message bandwidth, therefore Meinberg offers this module with a selection of performance level (PL) options you can choose from.

Designed for Meinberg’s IMS systems, the HPS100 provides a future-proof platform for IEEE 1588 / SyncE / Carrier Grade NTP infrastructures. The high-performance dual-core processor, the 1-step master clock and the 1GE interface with SFP slot support a very large number of PTP clients.

The HPS offers the ability to support up to 2048 PTP-Clients in Unicast (at 128 Sync/Delay Requests per second), as well as more than 250,000 Delay Requests per second in Multicast or Hybrid mode or more than 400,000 NTP requests per second due to a powerful FPGA-based Packet Generator engine.

Each performance level defines a number of packets/second or number of unicast slaves that can be served by an HPS100.  Additionally, the performance level option enables or disables specific features on the card.
