High Power Film Capacitors
AVX’s high power capacitors use high purity oil impregnation to achieve superior energy density in a compact capacitor design. They offer a high voltage range of 1.2kV – 100kV, with standard and custom terminal options. Our proprietary Controlled Self-Healing technology enhances the lifetime performance of power film capacitors. Controlled self-healing enables the capacitor to operate continually without catastrophic failure by immediately insulating any overstress sites that may occur in the dielectric layer. During operation, the capacitance will reduce slightly as a result of the controlled self-healing mechanism; capacitors are designed to lose no more than 2% of the original value over their operating lifetime at full voltage and temperature.

Medium Power Film Capacitors
AVX medium power film capacitors incorporate a dry segmented and non-segmented metallized polypropylene or polyester dielectric. The segmentation provides controlled self-healing, designed to achieve very high dielectric strength and avoid catastrophic failure. With AVX controlled self-healing technology, the segmented capacitors comprises several million elements, each protected by “fuse gates”. During operation, any dielectric breakdown becomes insulated locally, minimizing the risk of short circuit and the capacitor continues functioning normally.

SMD Chip Film Capacitors
The self healing property of film dielectric provides an open failure mode capacitor with excellent reliability. The intrinsic characteristic of film provides a capacitor which exhibits low DC Bias, excellent thermal behavior, no Piezoeffect and low ESR,ESL and dissipation factor. AVX’s SMD film capacitors are available in three dielectrics: PEN, PET-HT, and PPS, and in case sizes ranging from 1206 to 6054. Customised designs available on request.

Energy Storage Discharge Capacitors
AVX’s disfim capacitors, from APC Hi-Rel, are designed for energy storage and discharge applications. Controlled self-healing enables the capacitor to operate continually without catastrophic failure by immediately insulating any over-stress sites that may occur in the dielectric layer. During operation, the capacitance will reduce slightly as a result of the controlled self-healing mechanism; discharge capacitors are designed to lose no more than 5% of the original value over their operating lifetime at design voltage and temperature.

Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Capacitors – FHC1 & FHC2 Series
The FHC 1 and 2 products assure reliable operation for long lifetimes due to unique controlled self-healing technology. The FHC 1 & 2 provide a standard option for DC link capacitors used in DC filtering between rectifier and inverter in automotive applications. The series uses a dry-wound (non-oil-filled) segmented metallised polypropylene, specially treated to have a very high dielectric strength in operating conditions up to 115°C.
